True wellness means taking an integrative approach to your health, but what does that mean? An inherent part of that balance is sleep. The amount and quality of sleep you have affects most aspects of your physical and mental health. In our modern, busy and fractured lives, it can often be challenging to get enough good quality sleep. But by making some small changes, you might find it easier than you think to be well rested. Cutting your caffeine intake and reducing your use of electronics in the evenings can help. So can many deep breathing exercises, especially when you perform them in bed at night.


But your health is dependent on much more than the amount of sleep you get each night. The healthy life is also one fueled by a nutritious and varied diet, and a conscious approach towards the act of eating itself. That requires full awareness of what you should be eating, and why, so you can make the right decisions for yourself. Start with the basics: avoid processed foods, focus on healthy whole foods, plenty of fruit and veg. Over time you can develop an understanding of what is right for you as an individual. With proper nutrition, you will find that you have a body which functions like a well-oiled machine, and a mind which is sharp.


A clear mind is vital, because you need to look after both mind and body if you are to be of excellent health. Taking up a practice which enhances both is thus beneficial. Daily meditation, coupled with weekly yoga, can be a great way to make profound changes to your physical and mental wellbeing. Meditation can also often act as a fantastic booster for your mood, and helps you to regulate your stress levels. If you have never meditated, you can begin with a simple five-minute exercise. Focus your mind on the breath, directing your attention back towards the breath when the mind becomes distracted. You will find the effects of this simple practice outstanding.
